Keeping My Word

Don't Fear FailureWell, it’s Tuesday and so far, so good.  I am keeping the promise I made to myself on Friday to not only switch up my eating plan but my exercise plan as well.  I have to admit that shaking up my exercise routine is just as scary to me as changing the foods I eat.  Why?  I guess for all of the same reasons.  I started out with a certain exercise routine and I have added to it over the course of my weight loss but it’s basically another security blanket for me.  I lost a lot of weight doing the same workout but now, I wonder if it’s not as effective as it used to be.

I’ve had people tell me that if you continue to do the same exercise day in and day out, eventually your body comes to realize it’s going to be made to do that activity every day and eventually, that activity is not the same challenge that it used to be.  This theory makes a lot of sense to me and I’m sure there is a lot of truth to it.  Still, the thought of not doing certain exercises every day gives me the irrational fear that I will wake up the next morning and all of the weight will be back.  This is ridiculous I know, but it is a very real fear for me.

For the last few weeks I’ve focused on adding some individual exercises to my overall routine and today, I really branched out (for me anyway).  I purchased two different workout DVD’s and I started my regular routine with one of the new DVD’s this evening.  Notice, I couldn’t make myself replace my regular routine, but I did add to it.  The DVD was perfect because it is a 20 minute intense workout and served as a perfect warm up for my regular routine.  And, I know it must have been good for me as I am sore in new places tonight that are obviously not being worked in my regular routine.  It’s the good kind of sore that makes you feel like you are really doing something to benefit yourself.

Don't Stay In the Safety Zone

So, I set this goal in stone and I’m doing it.  Admittedly, I’m taking baby steps, but I am doing it.  I am still interested in water aerobics but I found out over the weekend that the county aquatic center closest to my house is closed until spring for renovations.  I was interested in taking the classes at a county aquatic center as it is the most cost-effective way to do it that does not involve having to sign a contract.  I will not let this small setback discourage me from trying new things.  Plan B is to find an affordable Zumba class close to my home and hopefully, that won’t be too difficult.  Do any of you have a certain exercise you like to do that you would recommend?  I am open to any and all ideas.

I’m excited as I start class next week for my Personal Trainer Certification and I am certain that I will not only learn to be a Personal Trainer, but I will also learn how to modify my exercise routine in a way that will help my weight loss efforts as well.  I’m so excited that I am going to learn how to help other people.  By June I will have my Personal Trainer and Health Coach certifications and I am looking forward to helping as many people as I can to realize their dreams!

I’m feeling good about the week.  I am implementing my goals I wrote down and I’m stepping out on a few limbs and trying new things.  It’s funny how facing your fears can give you such a sense of empowerment, no matter how big or small those fears are.
