And The Verdict Is…

Never Be AfraidWell, as you all know I just completed my week of the Weight Watchers Simple Start plan and I have been anxious about weigh in all week.  I need to start off by saying that all of the meals were delicious and I experienced a variety of foods this past week that I have considered “off-limits” to me for the past twenty-eight months.  It was kind of nice to experience some different foods, but scary at the same time.

I hesitate to tell you how I feel about Simple Start, only because I NEVER want to discourage anyone.  Please understand that the same techniques are not always good for everyone.  What works for me may not be a good fit for you and how you lose weight.  Please bear in mind that I am only giving you my opinion and I strongly encourage you to form your own opinions about different methods. All of that being said, I did not feel like the Simple Start plan was a good fit for me.  Don’t get me wrong, the plan itself is wonderful, but one of the reasons it’s called “simple” is because you don’t have to count any Weight Watchers Points Plus (except for indulgences).  For many people, counting points is very tedious and they don’t really care to do it.  For me, counting points has become my security blanket and I felt very “out of control” not counting.  I was very careful with my portion sizes and used the guides Weight Watchers gives you in order to determine appropriate portions but for me, there just did not feel like there was enough control.

I did do a whole lot better this week as far as eating actual meals which is something I have been struggling with and I will continue to incorporate some of these new meals into my weekly routine.  The difference will be that I will measure portions exactly and track accordingly as this is the method I am more comfortable with.

And now for the part you’ve all been waiting for; I was down 1.2 lbs. this week.  I was thrilled to finally be down after three weeks of being stuck and as I always say, “A loss is a loss.”   I know it may not make sense to not want to do the same plan next week since I did lose, but I really did not like the feeling of being “out of control.”

Weight 1.24.14

In my mind, not measuring and not tracking are two of the things that got me into trouble in the first place.  I have to be honest and tell you that I live in a little bit of fear of one day being heavy again.  I don’t believe for one second I will ever let that happen as I feel like I have worked too hard and come way too far to ever go back, but I worry about it.  I tell people once you have been to what I call “the awful place,” your worst fear is ending up back there.  I sometimes have nightmares that I wake up one morning and all of the weight is back.  Hopefully, these fears will get better with time.

In the meantime, I feel like it is in my best interest to stick with what I am comfortable with and what I feel safest with.  As Michael said to me this morning, “You have been very successful counting points, so why change that?”

I am really glad that I tried this for a full week and I hope that all of you will be open to experimenting with different methods throughout your weight loss journey.  Remember, just because someone else’s way doesn’t work for you does not mean there is something wrong with you.  It just means that your body responds better to a different method.  The important thing is to keep trying!

Try and Keep Trying

Comments

  1. It just didn’t seem normal…..you not being a “number cruncher” last week … I’m proud of you !!!!

  2. Way to go, Kassie! I applaud you for stepping out of your comfort zone, especially for an entire week. Like you, I prefer tracking points, but I do look at the other WW alternatives such as Simple Start and try to learn from them even if I don’t use them. Congrats on the loss and on being willing to try something new!

  3. Thanks for the honest opinion! I’ve been going back and forth on whether I want to do Simple Start or not. I’m planning on joining WW in the next week, so I enjoy reading up on real life stories. I’ve recently started following your blog and was wondering if you have staple WW meals or dinners in your rotation? This has been the hardest thing for me to do. I cannot seem to get away from the same ole’ same. {Grilled chicken, Grilled chicken salad, Broiled tilapia, turkey sandwich….} Gets old after a while. I look on Pinterest frequently for ideas and have even tried some, but was curious if you have a few you share. THANKS!
