My Top 5 Tips For Weight Loss Success

Success Is the SumOne of the questions I get most often about my weight loss is, “How are you doing it?”  There are many different answers to this question and my “on the fly answer” is usually, “Weight Watchers and working out,” and while both of those things are true, there are many other factors that come into play.  I have been giving all of these things a lot of thought as I try to get myself back on track and I thought that while I am re-charging myself, I would share these tried and true tips with you that have worked for me in the past and I know will continue to work as I mindfully implement them once again.  Take a look at the list and see if these things need to be incorporated into your own weight loss journey.

Kassie’s Top 5 Tips for Weight Loss Success

1. Mindset:  I believe that your mindset is key to your weight loss success and I think it’s more important than any other factor that may come into play.  It was my own personal experience and I have observed in others that if you haven’t truly made up your mind that you are ready to lose the weight and that you will commit no matter what, you will not be successful.  It’s imperative that your head be in the right place.

2. Motivation: Identify the specific goals you want to reach and write them down.  The more specific your goals, the easier it will be to maintain your focus and stay on track.  For instance, a goal of wanting to be healthier is very vague but a goal of lowering your cholesterol so that you can stop medication is a specific, measurable goal and as you see your cholesterol numbers improve, you will be motivated to stay on track.

3. Tracking: Regardless of which weight loss program you are following, I think that it is extremely beneficial to track your eating in some type of food journal.  If you write down everything you put into your mouth, it gives you an extra layer of accountability and believe me, if you know you are going to have to write something down, you will tend to think twice about whether or not it’s really worth it to eat it.

4. Learn from your setbacks:  Notice I say, “learn from,” not “beat yourself up” over your setbacks.  Realize that there are going to be setbacks along the way; that’s just part of weight loss.  The important thing is to learn from your mistakes and move on.  A bad day does not need to turn into a bad week or worse yet, a bad month.  If you mess up, get yourself back on track with your very next meal.  You don’t have to wait until the next day to start over.  The sooner you get back on track after a slip-up, the better.

5. It’s a Lifestyle Change: I never think of my weight loss journey as a diet because the term “diet” implies something that is temporary.  The truth of the matter is that if you want lasting weight loss, you are never going to be able to go back to your old ways of eating and non-activity.  It works better to think of yourself as adopting a new, permanent lifestyle.

This is certainly not all of the tips I could give you for weight loss, they are just some of the top ones that have been instrumental in my own success.  Hopefully you see something here that you could incorporate into your own routine that will help you achieve success.
