Smooth Sailing

Chocolate MilkshakeWhen I think of delicious summertime treats, milkshakes are right up there at the top of my list.  As all of us on weight loss journeys know, a milkshake has the power to completely derail your efforts in the few short moments it takes to enjoy it.

Fast food chocolate milkshakes range anywhere between 12 and 23 Points Plus® and I found some that were 850 calories and 23 grams of fat.   I don’t know about you but for me, there is no milkshake out there that tastes good enough to warrant sacrificing that many of my points.  I have a great alternative for you and mine is only 4 Points Plus® which I feel like is a reasonable amount to spend on a “treat.”

Ingredients:

  • 1 Packet of Weight Watchers Smoothie Mix
  • 1 banana
  • 1 Dannon Light and Fit Greek Yogurt (any flavor) I use Banana Cream Pie in mine
  • Ice (any amount you choose) I use a 22 ounce cup full

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend to the desired consistency.  You can enjoy it immediately or put it in the freezer and enjoy it later.

Now, you may be thinking, “there’s no way this is going to be as good as a regular chocolate milkshake,” and I cannot deny that it is different, but keep in mind, different does not have to be bad.  If you are like me, you have learned or are learning that part of being on a weight loss journey is learning to adjust your tastes.  For me, adjusting my tastes is a whole lot easier than having to fight to get the weight off again.  The banana and greek yogurt in my recipe help to give the smoothie a thicker, more milkshake-like consistency.

I hope you all will give this a try and please let me know what you think.

    850 calories? YIKES!!!

I love that…different does not have to be bad:) Looks good to me!!

  2. I miss milkshakes. Along with King Sized Kit Kays another of my habits was to stop at Mackey For or BY and get a vat of milkshake and guzzle it before getting home (about 15 min in the car). I can’t honestly even say I enjoyed them.

I will pass this recipe to Mrs. C. she’s a wizard with the blender.

I think I could write a lot of articles on the crazy, in-car food choices I made that contributed to my morbid obesity

    • I know what you mean Bobby. “Closet eating” was a HUGE problem for me. In the car…at home when no one was looking. Sometimes it’s hard for me to believe that was really me that did those things to myself. But those days are behind us, right?

      • Yes, behind me forever hopefully. I can remember doing it and actually crying at the time. I was like a junkie getting a fix.
